![]() ![]() I respect any movie that is willing to be weird and go against the grain, and the first half of the movie was tense as hell. MEN- super divisive, extremely ambitious, and the ending is all body horror. Still need to see: The Menu, Resurrection, Black Phone Honorable Mentions: Barbarian, Terrifier 2, You Won't Be Alone, X You also can't be mad at a movie that casts Lee Pace and Rachel Sennott. The comedy almost has to be there, otherwise it would have been nothing but cringe.ĥ.) Bodies Bodies Bodies - I had some issues with the climax being a little confusing and muddled, but maybe that was the point? Either way, the dialogue saves the day, being iconic on par with Heathers, Mean Girls, and every other teen girl movie we still quote decades later. Balancing horror and comedy this well without overrelying on camp for the humor is a challenge, yet the scares still hit just right. It's really hard to see this without the big twist being spoiled beforehand, but even knowing what I was getting myself into, I didn't expect the jokes to land as well as they did. The concept might be the scariest one I saw this year because the impact of trauma and contagion of suicide are very real things, and the psychological aspects of the screenplay leave us with enough ambiguity to draw our own conclusions even if a more direct interpretation of the movie puts it in the supernatural realm.Ĥ.) Fresh - What a fun movie. Not only does it stand on its own, it made me appreciate X more.ģ.) Smile - This movie is like a mash-up of The Ring and The Empty Man, so it should feel derivative-and yet, it works. Just outstanding work all around from everybody involved. Great performances, writing, direction, and pacing, with a complex protagonist that gives us the best depiction I've seen on film at how the trauma and loneliness of being bullied can erode our humanity.Ģ.) Pearl - Mia Goth deserves an Oscar for this performance, one of the greatest I've ever seen in any horror film ever. That's all I can give you on it.ġ.) Piggy - This one flew under the radar, and while it's exactly what you'd expect from the trailer, it's executed about as flawlessly as possible. If you haven't seen this one, go in knowing very, very little. This movie is absolutely CRAZY! There's not much more I can say about it. $10m on a $250,000 budget is only proof that horror directors should be taken seriously. Instead of waiting it out, Damien Leone wrote more blood and gore into the movie and it paid off in dividends. I think this move benefited the most out of the COVID quarantine. This was easily the scariest of everything I've seen this year. ![]() This movie starts with a creep factor of "Don't Look Under The Bed". So far, I've seen it seven times and I can't get enough of it. Before seeing it, I saw it labeled as "Boogie Nights meets The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and I can't describe it any better. Ti West as the director changed all of that. ![]() It surpassed all expectations and while not terribly frightening, it had a really solid story that kept everything nice and tight.īrittany Snow topless was the initial reason I wanted to see this. That being said, there are quite a few movies that were labeled as "The Best Of 2022". I think this year has been what 2020 was supposed to be. This has been an absolutely stellar year for Horror. ![]()
